BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) learning with tablets

The 'BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program' and the 'Quality Education Fund e-Learning Grant Program'

The 'BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program' and the 'Quality Education Fund e-Learning Grant Program' are actively implemented in our school to enhance students' interest and interactivity in learning. Our school has fully embraced digital learning and implemented the 'BYOD Program.'

Considering that the development of 'Bring Your Own Device' may impose financial pressure on students from low-income families, the school will participate in the 'Quality Education Fund e-Learning Grant Program' initiated by the Education Bureau. This three-year program allows the school to apply for funding to purchase mobile computing devices for students with financial needs, facilitating the implementation of e-learning.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Policy and Student Code of Conduct:

To support the comprehensive implementation of e-teaching, our school continues to prioritize electronic and online learning as supplementary teaching tools. Therefore, we encourage students to bring their own devices to school and utilize tablets and cloud-based learning platforms for their studies, aiming to enhance learning outcomes in the classroom. The following are the policies regarding BYOD, which students must adhere to:

Management and Monitoring:

  1. The school will filter internet browsing content. If students come across any inappropriate online content, they should report it to their teachers. Students should not attempt to bypass internet filters and security restrictions.
  2. For security reasons, all wireless internet browsing activities will be monitored and recorded.
  3. The school reserves the right to monitor, inspect, access, and browse all devices brought onto the school premises.

Safety:

  1. All tablets must be stored inside classrooms when not in use. If a tablet is lost or damaged, the usual procedures will be followed by the disciplinary team.
  2. It is strongly recommended for students to use protective cases for their tablets and label them with their names for identification.
  3. Students who have received tablets subsidized by the Community Care Fund are not allowed to bring other tablets to school.

Charging:

To ensure instructional effectiveness, students are responsible for protecting and charging their tablet batteries every day before bringing them to school. Students are not allowed to use their own power chargers on campus.

Tablet Usage Guidelines:

  1. Students should not bring devices to school for usage unless there are electronic activities or specific instructions from teachers.
  2. The policy of bringing devices to school is only applicable to students from P.3 to P.6.
  3. Personal tablets for students in P.1 and P.2 should be kept at home for online platform learning activities primarily.
  4. Tablets for electronic classroom activities in P.1 and P.2 will be loaned by the school for on-campus usage.
  5. Students are responsible for the safekeeping of their own tablets, and the school is not liable for any loss or damage to students' tablets.
  6. When not using their tablets, students must keep them inside their personal backpacks.
  7. Students can only use their tablets under the guidance and supervision of teachers.
  8. Students can only use approved applications or tablet programs designated by the school.
  9. Without permission from teachers, students are not allowed to take photos or videos in class or post such photos or videos online.
  10. Students who introduce viruses, Trojan horses, or any unauthorized programs into the network and propagate them online, without proper authorization, are in violation of school policies and will face disciplinary action.
  11. Students must use the school's wireless network and are not allowed to use personal mobile networks (such as 2G/3G/4G). Students may use Wi-Fi-enabled tablets (in airplane mode) only.
  12. Students can use their tablets for sending emails or communicating with others on campus only with the permission of teachers.
  13. Students are not allowed to connect their tablets to the school's local area network.
  14. The school reserves the right to review any websites deemed irrelevant to educational purposes.
  15. Students must comply with copyright laws.
  16. The use of any gaming devices or gaming programs is prohibited.
  17. Students should not share usernames and passwords with other students or staff members.
  18. Unauthorized modification of tablets is strictly prohibited.
  19. The school reserves the right to inspect tablets suspected of malfunctioning, being attacked, or infected with viruses.

Consequences of Non-compliance:

Students who fail to comply with the guidelines will face disciplinary action. If a student is found to have violated the terms of this agreement or any relevant school policies, the school has the right to inspect the student's tablet
