Non-Chinese Speaking Students Support Summary

Objective 1: Enhance students' Chinese language proficiency through diverse support methods
1.1 Personalized support: Provide pull-out Chinese classes for lower primary students and pull-out Chinese writing classes for upper primary students, helping Non-Chinese Speaking students progressively master Chinese, thereby boosting their learning confidence and motivation.
1.2 Chinese consolidation classes: Chinese consolidation classes every Tuesday before regular lessons, employing a "step by step" approach to c students' consolidate Chinese foundations.
1.3 After-School tutorial classes: led by school or external Chinese teachers to alleviate homework pressure and reinforce what they have learnt.
1.4 Assistance for external courses: Assist students in enrolling in external support courses to expand learning resources.
1.5 Daily chat and follow-ups: chat with students everyday during recess to find out their difficulties in language learning and daily life, and provide immediate support.
1.6 Upper Primary Peer Mentoring Policy: where students with stronger Chinese abilities tutor those with weaker skills.
1.7 Achievement review: and organize achievement review and recognition events to commend outstanding students and help them set personal goals.
1.8 Optimization of support and assessment: Explain policies to teachers, hold regular NCS learning and teaching team meetings, review and improve the effectiveness of current measures.

Objective 2: Cultivate Well-Rounded Development Skills
2.1 Encourage students to enthusiastically engage in various in-school extracurricular activities, such as skateboarding classes, scouting, SDG volunteer teams, English drama, and visual arts ambassadors to nurture their body, mind, and spirit, achieving a balanced and excellent growth trajectory.
2.2 Encourage students to participate in Chinese cultural events, such as speeches under the national flag, moral education sharing, TIMO’s Got Talent, calligraphy workshops, and Chinese writing competitions, to discover and meticulously nurture their potentials in different areas, igniting the inner light of cultural confidence.
2.3 Collaborate with non-profit organizations to host various types of activities, planning team collaboration and STEM exploration events, so students can learn in joy, hone their team spirit, innovative thinking, and problem-solving skills and unlock countless possibilities.

Objective 3: Promote School Integration and Cultural Identity
3.1 Enrol NCS students in various extracurricular activities alongside Chinese-speaking students so they can integrate naturally into school life, deepen their sense of belonging to the school and community, and in turn transform the school into a harmonious and inclusive environment.
3.2 Enrol them in experiential activities such as outdoor learning days, craft classes, and parent-child workshops. They will be able to immerse in the charm of Hong Kong and Chinese culture, gain self-confidence and cultural pride. The activities also promote cross-ethnic interactions and appreciation of diversity, thereby building an inclusive, multicultural, and sustainable school and community.

NCS Celebration Party

The school held the “Celebration Party for Non-Chinese Speaking Students” on 2nd July 2026 for Primary 1 to Primary 6 students, to celebrate their efforts and growth in learning Chinese. The event also recognized students who demonstrated outstanding performance and significant improvement in assessments, as well as those who actively participated in school activities and showed a strong spirit of service. Non-Chinese speaking students bring unique cultural backgrounds that blend with the local school culture, enriching our campus with diversity. We also hope that they will become a source of pride for the school, embracing a strong sense of belonging and responsibility. The event was filled with a lively and joyful atmosphere. Two students, Jericho from 5A and Angela from 5C, showcased their confidence and talent through their beautiful singing. In addition, two outstanding student representatives, Mark from 2B and Jericho from 5A, sincerely shared their experiences and insights in learning Chinese, inspiring their peers to face challenges with courage. At the end of the event, each student received a thoughtfully prepared gift bag—a Song brocade wind chime handicraft kit with distinctive Chinese cultural characteristics—symbolizing blessings and good wishes. Students were encouraged to cherish their learning opportunities, contribute their strengths to building an inclusive campus, and work together towards a brighter future.

NCS Chinese Cultural Event

To help Non-Chinese speaking students deeply experience the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture, our school arranged for Primary 1 to Primary 6 Non-Chinese speaking students to visit the “Dream Come True” organization in Cheung Sha Wan on June 17 for a special cultural experience journey.

The activities of the day were rich and diverse, and all students participated wholeheartedly:

Traditional Craft Creation: Students unleashed their creativity by hand-painting classic rooster bowls and crafting lifelike siu mai-shaped dough figurines.
Cultural and Skills Experience: Students calmly learned the elegance of tea ceremony etiquette and understood the philosophical meanings behind utensils such as the fairness cup. They also took part in fun games, using chopsticks to pick up cotton, ping pong balls, and marbles, developing hand-eye coordination amidst laughter.

Through this activity, students gained new knowledge and skills. They were excited to bring their beautifully crafted works home and share their learning outcomes and Chinese culture with their families. Everyone benefited greatly and enjoyed a fulfilling and joyful day!

P.1-3 Parent-Child Oil-Paper Umbrella Workshop

To promote traditional Chinese culture and enhance students' understanding of oil-paper fans and the art of paper cutting while stimulating their creativity, the school organized the "Parent-Child Oil-Paper Fan and Paper Cutting Workshop for Primary 1 to Primary 3" on 13^th December, 2025 at the School Hal.

The event attracted enthusiastic participation from both parents and students, who enjoyed experiencing the beauty of Chinese culture in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.

During the paper-cutting session, students used their skills to create a variety of animal shapes, each vivid and lifelike. In the oil-paper fan activity, students fully expressed their creativity by decorating the fans with colorful and diverse patterns, showcasing their rich imagination.

This activity not only deepened students' understanding of oil-paper fans and paper-cutting art, but also strengthened parent-child interaction, allowing participants to appreciate the charm of traditional culture through hands-on creation and gain a rewarding experience.

After-School Tutorial Class

To support the learning needs of non-Chinese speaking students, our school has established After-school tutorial classes for Primary 1 to Primary 6 students. The classes are held daily from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., providing students with appropriate academic support and guidance.

Students in the classes generally demonstrate positive attitudes toward learning. They actively participate, ask questions when in doubt, show humility in receiving guidance, and strive to complete their homework diligently.

To encourage continuous improvement, teachers use stickers as a form of recognition to acknowledge students’ efforts and performance during the sessions. In addition, teachers compile a monthly record of stickers to commend students who actively engage in class, complete their homework conscientiously, and are willing to support their peers.

This classes not only enhance students’ academic abilities, but also help build their confidence and facilitates their integration into school life, promoting whole-person development.

Crafts Class

During the lessons, students actively participate in creating a variety of delicate and creative handicrafts, such as festive decorations and traditional craft items. Through hands-on practice, they learn relevant cultural knowledge while developing their observation skills and creativity. With careful guidance from teachers, students are able to master techniques in a relaxed and enjoyable environment, gradually building their confidence and expressive abilities.

The classroom atmosphere is harmonious and engaging. Students show enthusiasm, are willing to try new things, and actively interact with their peers by sharing their creative work, fostering positive learning interactions. Overall, students demonstrate strong interest in the activities and thoroughly enjoy the creative learning process.

Through this programme, students not only deepen their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture, but also develop their artistic literacy and diverse abilities. It also promotes cultural inclusion, helping students grow in an environment that values and respects different cultures.
