The university has always valued the cultivation of students' social responsibility and civic literacy, encouraging them to care about the community and understand social issues. This time, the Senior Living Lab was invited to the university to interact with students. Rooted in the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Senior Living Lab brings together academic research and interdisciplinary strength to respond to Hong Kong's aging population and housing challenges. It is committed to promoting three core values: aging in place, healthy aging, and intergenerational integration. Through research, design, and community practice, it creates a more livable and sustainable living environment for the elderly and provides innovative solutions to the issue of aging in society.
This tabletop game experience, themed around housing and the elderly, is an attempt to transform professional knowledge into interactive learning. In a relaxed game process, students personally experience the real difficulties faced by the elderly in terms of housing, transportation, care, and social interaction, gaining a deeper understanding of the meaning of a fulfilling life in old age and the social challenges brought about by population aging. The game not only enhances students' empathy for issues related to the elderly but also guides them to think about solutions such as spatial design, policy planning, and community support, turning care into action and cultivating the ability to solve social problems. Through this type of experiential learning, students can connect the classroom with reality, understand the close relationship between aging and housing issues, and become a new force in promoting intergenerational integration and building a friendly aging society.
