Teen popular culture is constantly circulating and discussed on social media. The culture and information within it often become objects of imitation for teenagers, and are continuously shared and reposted among peers. This phenomenon creates a mimicry effect, having varying impacts on teenagers' development. In light of this, our school held a parent seminar titled "Know More About Teen Popular Culture," hoping that parents could learn about current popular culture among teenagers, adopt a positive attitude, establish two-way communication with their children, and accompany them on their journey of growth.
The speaker was Ms. Li, a registered social worker from the Community Drug Education and Counseling Association. She demonstrated and explained commonly used social media platforms to parents and even had everyone guess the meanings of some trendy slang. Some parents were completely clueless, while a few were very up-to-date and could explain the meanings of various slang terms, earning praise from the other parents present. After the seminar, parents felt that a greater understanding of teenager popular culture would indeed enable them to communicate more effectively with their children, thus providing opportunities for guidance and support.
